MODEST BEGINNINGS
The Sound of Music has exploded in size since its modest beginnings in 1980 as a marching band parade. Operating as a not-for-profit corporation, the organization stages Canada's Largest Free Music Festival every year in June. Due to the passion, love and commitment of hundreds of volunteers, a small staff, and a roster of generous sponsors and suppliers, music takes over Downtown Burlington and the waterfront.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
As the region’s largest music event we support an eclectic combination of new and emerging artists, local and international talent, past favourites and some of today’s most popular performers.
Music can be heard throughout the downtown core for four days straight. - spotlighting local & emerging talent, culminating in a lineup of FREE concerts on three stages over four days! Be sure to also take in the Downtown Streetfest, the Grande Festival Parade, midway, craft vendors, food trucks and more. SOM is more than just a music festival, it’s a celebration of the arts over Father’s Day Weekend.
