About the Artist
Pat Collins – Bass
Bassist, composer and educator Pat Collins has been a mainstay on the Canadian jazz scene since moving to Toronto in 1988. Pat has performed with such jazz luminaries as Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Ed Bickert, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, Peter Appleyard, and many more. Pat has taught at Humber College in Toronto, and in 2005, joined the full-time music faculty at Mohawk College, in Hamilton, ON. Pat is in demand as a clinician at universities and colleges all over North America.
Pat maintains a busy performance schedule in the Toronto area, and leads his own quartet and trio. He released his first album, entitled “In the Moment” in 2006, and will be releasing a trio album in 2018.

Rob Fekete – Piano
Robert C. Fekete is a Canadian Jazz pianist and composer who shares his musical philosophy with others through performance and audio recording. His roots are planted firmly in classical and jazz traditions; however he aspires to build a bridge between modern popular music and older musical art forms without losing his focus on the relevance and necessity of art in the world. Robert recognizes the importance of recruiting young people to the jazz art form. He conveys this message through his musical compositions and when he performs live. Robert has been performing and composing professionally since 1989. Robert is a Mohawk College music program Alumni.
Robert also finished an undergrad, teachers college, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto. He currently teaches at Mohawk College and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
Nicholas Rhodes – Guitar
Nicholas Rhodes is a guitar player based in Hamilton, Ontario, and began playing the guitar at the age of sixteen. He quickly developed a passion for jazz that was further developed through study with his first teacher, Jacob Sinclair.
Nicholas is entering his third year of the music program at Mohawk College, where he has been given many playing opportunities, including being chosen by the faculty to represent Mohawk College at this year’s Toronto Jazz Festival as part of the new “Jazz Musician Intensive” workshop. Nicholas will be graduating from the Mohawk College program in April, 2019.
Kurtis Vandervie – Drums
Kurtis Vandevrie lives in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and is currently working towards completing the Contemporary Jazz Program at Mohawk College. This past year, Kurtis was chosen by the faculty to represent Mohawk College at this year’s Toronto Jazz Festival as part of the new “Jazz Musician Intensive” workshop, and has been busy performing both in and out of the college.
Over the past thirteen years, Kurtis has been developing his skills as a professional drummer. Mastering a variety of drumming styles, Kurtis has been able to perform as session player and teaches a variety of students from across the globe how to drum.
